About Yael

Hello, I’m Yael Greenwood, a Registered Psychotherapist, dedicated to supporting my clients in developing insight and understanding into what matters to them, how their brains and nervous systems work, work, embracing strengths, and to work towards achieving improved mental health and wellbeing.

Who Am I?

I believe that life is a journey—sometimes beautiful and sometimes difficult—and that no one is immune to hardship. At the same time, I believe that we all have the capacity to develop tools that help us build on our strengths, navigate challenges, and learn to roll with the punches in ways that make life feel more meaningful and fulfilling. There is also beauty in the world around us, and sometimes, with greater focus and intention, we can begin to see it more clearly.

What Do I Focus On?

I work with older adolescents, emerging adults, and adults of all ages and stages who who are seeking support with anxiety (including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD), low mood, self-confidence, identity development, academic or work-related stress, relationship and family challenges, and uncertainty about the future. I also have specialized training in working with individuals with ADHD, and enjoy helping clients better understand how their brains work while developing strategies that allow them to thrive.

My Background:

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University and am a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO #11166). Over the past eight years, I have worked in a variety of settings, including the Student Counselling Centre at York University, where I completed my practicum; Hillel Ontario, where I worked as a Wellness Director and Therapist; and several Employee Assistance Programs, including Workplace Options, Humanacare, ComPsych, and Lyra Health, both as an employee and independent contractor.

These diverse experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the many ways people experience and navigate challenges, and have shaped my approach to therapy. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities and tailor my approach to the individual needs, strengths, and goals of each client. I also remain committed to ongoing professional development, keeping current with developments in mental health research and evidence-based approaches to psychotherapy.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy reading for pleasure, all kinds of theatre (movies, ballet, musicals), comfort food, and spending time relaxing at home with friends and family. I value the importance of having time to recharge and stay grounded, so that I can bring my full presence, energy, and attentiveness to my work with clients.

My Approach:

My approach is client-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, neurodiversity-informed. I provide a safe, non-judgmental place for clients to explore, and process their experiences, thoughts, and feelings, and to work towards their identified goals. This involves my drawing from CBT, ACT, brief solution-focused therapy, and psychoeducational approaches.

I work collaboratively with my clients to identify goals for therapy, and to strategies to work towards those goals, moving at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful. While I bring guidance, tools, and perspective to the process, my client will always remain in the driver’s seat.

What I’m Hoping For:

I am passionate about helping individuals and families build healthier relationships with themselves and with each other. I hope to empower my clients to develop the tools and insights they need to lead more fulfilling and meaningful lives. If you are seeking support for yourself or your family, I invite you to reach out for a no-charge consultation to see if we might be a good fit.

Something Fun About Me:

A fun fact about me is that I am a huge country music fan, and am happy to kick back in the cheap seats!

A first session is a conversation. You talk about what brings you in, the therapist explains how they work, and together you decide whether it’s the right fit.

Your message goes to Yael directly. Please don’t include sensitive health details; a short note about what you’re looking for is enough.

Therapy is not crisis care. In crisis, call or text 9-8-8 any time; for emergencies, call 911.
