Focus areas
Rediscover Your Strength. Reclaim Your Life.
I’m Jessica Cummings, a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, and Doctoral candidate specializing in trauma, eating disorders, personality disorders, and menopausal mental health. With over 25 years of clinical experience, I believe healing is possible when we honour both the mind and body, reclaim our agency, and reconnect with our inherent strength.
My Philosophy: Nature-Based, Feminist-Informed, Trauma-Aware
My approach is grounded in the understanding that true healing requires more than insight—it requires embodiment, choice, and connection. I integrate nature-based and somatic practices with evidence-based therapy because I’ve seen how profoundly the body, animals, and the natural world can support healing from trauma and life’s deepest challenges. Drawing on feminist-informed practice, I centre your autonomy, question restrictive patterns and beliefs that may have been internalized, and support you in reclaiming agency over your life and your narrative.
How We Work Together
Depending on what resonates with you, we might use EMDR and trauma-focused work to help you process painful memories and reduce their emotional charge; DBT to develop practical tools for emotion regulation, stress management, and stronger relationships; mindfulness-based therapies to increase awareness of thoughts and patterns keeping you stuck and to ground you in the present moment; equine-assisted therapy—a powerful, embodied approach using interactions with rescued horses to support emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and self-awareness; or other therapeutic approaches including CBT, Nature-Based Ecotherapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Clinical Hypnotherapy, tailored to your needs.
Whether you’re navigating the significant emotional and psychological shifts of perimenopause and menopause, working through the aftermath of trauma, struggling with disordered eating patterns, or facing the complexity of personality disorders, I meet you where you are with warmth, expertise, and genuine collaboration.
My Background & Credentials
I hold multiple degrees from top universities in Canada and the U.S. I earned my M.A. in Social Psychology and my M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work, and I am currently furthering my expertise as a candidate in the Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy program. I’m Board Certified in Eating Disorders, and my Doctoral research focuses on mindful movement and nature-based interventions for menopausal mood disorders. My clinical training includes EMDR, DBT, MBSR, Nature-Based Ecotherapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy, and trauma-informed Equine-Assisted approaches.
Beyond my practice, I have a particular interest in supervising and mentoring new and experienced clinicians. I’ve supervised practicum students from the Wilfrid Laurier University Master of Social Work Program and the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at UofT. I’ve served as a Lecturer in the Family Medicine Program at the University of Toronto’s Medical School, where I mentored and taught Family Medicine Residents. I’m a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on childhood trauma, eating disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, and the mental health impacts of menopause—topics I’m deeply passionate about.
What Sets My Practice Apart
I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. You have options: in-person sessions at my Toronto or Stouffville locations; equine-assisted therapy and pet therapy offered at my Stouffville location for those drawn to experiential, embodied work; virtual care across Ontario and other provinces and territories; or traditional talk therapy. Whether you’re seeking the grounding power of equine-assisted work and pet therapy, traditional talk therapy, nature-based approaches, or the flexibility of online sessions, I offer a variety of approaches to match your needs and preferences.
My integrative model means you’re not just talking about change—you’re experiencing it through your body, your relationships, and your connection to the natural world. This is therapy that honours your whole self.
Let’s Begin
If you’re navigating a challenging time, ready to heal from past wounds, or simply prepared to grow in a new direction, I would be honoured to support you. While we can’t change what’s already happened, we can absolutely transform how it affects your life going forward. Let’s take the first step together.
